LEARNERSHIPS

A learnership is a vocational education and training program to facilitate the linkage between structured learning and work experience in order to obtain a registered qualification. It combines theory and workplace practice into a qualification that is registered on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).

Welding Application & Practice

Welders are skilled in understanding the compatibility of different types of materials that needs to be welded together, to ensure a proper solid structure comes out of the welding process. These materials include ferrous and non-ferrous metals such as carbon steel and aluminium. Welders are also skilled in understanding settings on various machines and welding rods or welding wire, as well as the setting up of regulators, different types of gases being used in the welding disciplines and how to purge in order to remove oxygen to prevent conditions of porosity.

Mechanical Engineering: Fitting

A fitter is responsible for studying blueprints, plans, and drawings to be able to construct, assemble, manufacture, and fit parts of machines. This person is also responsible for maintaining and repairing different types of machinery.

Boilermaking

The Boilermakers are skilled in reading and interpreting drawings in the manufacturing process of various metal based components. The artisan must have good welding skills and understand the way metal will respond when heat is applied to it by the type of welding being applied; the understanding of malleability of steel is of the highest importance. The artisan must have good working knowledge of rollers bending machines welders and grinders as well as measuring equipment and methods.
